Tecora Rogers
Tecora Rogers was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois and has been singing since joining the Angelic Choir at her church at the age of six. Now internationally renowned, Tecora Rogers' gift is her ability to reach into the soul of the listener and make them feel the warmth she feels as she communicates through song. This talented “triple threat” (singer, writer and producer) also hosts her own television program since August 1996. The Tecora Rogers Show airs every Monday at 10:00pm on Channel 19 in Chicago. Tecora hosted her own radio program in 1998 on WYCA, Hammond, IN.
Tecora is the recipient of an Illinois Arts Council Grant; she is listed in the 2005-2007 Illinois ArtsTour Roster and has won two National level awards for her 26-part African American History television documentary series. The documentary highlights major events in African American History from 1696 through 2000 and spotlights historians from major universities across the United States. Tecora now travels world-wide conducting African American History workshops utilizing footage from the history series.
In addition to her many television credits, Tecora has performed gospel and jazz throughout the United States, Switzerland, France, Italy, Spain, Slovenia, Belgium, Germany and Asia. In 2003 Tecora had the opportunity to establish her own gospel group “The Chicago Spirituals” who toured Italy for the first time in December 2004 and were so successful, they were asked to record a CD, which was completed in February 2005. She is also credited with performing the lead vocal on the Kentucky Fried Chicken radio commercial “KFC IS COOKING” and one of the group vocalists on the Kmart radio commercial “NEW CLOTHES”. Tecora also performed background vocals on the Starhub Television Commercial titled “Smile” in Singapore. Tecora's role can be easily identified by the adlibs heard throughout the commercial.
Tecora's repertoire includes jazz, blues, pop and gospel. Her extensive engagements include performances at many Chicago festivals including the African Festival of the Arts and the Chicago Gospel Festival. As well as, several guest appearances at Harry's in Singapore, the Oriental Hotel Bamboo Room in Bangkok, CJW in Shanghai and many other appearances in France, Italy and Switzerland. Tecora was the “Artist in Residence” at the Regent Hotel Singapore; she performed at Club JZ in Shanghai China; Harry's Jazz Club in Singapore; Sirocco Restaurant in Bangkok and the American Ambassador's Residence in Bangkok with jazz legend Eldee Young. Tecora received a personal invitation from the American Ambassador for Thailand (Ambassador Ralph Boyce) to perform for her country’s 2005 Independence Day Celebration in Bangkok Thailand. Tecora performed with the USAF Jazz Band of the Pacific stationed at Yokota Air Base in Japan.
Tecora’s discography includes: “Tecora” the self-titled gospel CD which combines the soulfulness of traditional gospel with the freshness of contemporary gospel like no other release has ever done. Track #5 “Light of the World” presents a jazzy gospel feel and features Chicago’s own Orbert Davis on trumpet. Tecora’s jazz CD “Tecora Rogers – Live in Singapore” is packed with 12 jazz and blues favorites and was recorded with the internationally known Chromazone Band at Harry’s Jazz Club in Singapore. Finally, “I’m Going Home” is a gospel CD of traditional music with Tecora and the Chicago Spirituals. Tecora's CD are avaialble here and are distributed world-wide on most major music download site.
